This Privacy Notice explains how Commercial Express Quotes Limited (Commercial Express) use any personal information we collect about you.

What information do we collect about you?

We will collect personal information about you for the purposes of providing insurance products or services.  This may include your name, contact details, date of birth, your occupation, details about the risk to be insured and payment details.  In some circumstances, we may need to collect information relating to health or criminal convictions in order to administer your insurance policy or if it is required for any legal obligations.

How is the information is provided to us?

Most of the personal information we hold about you is received from your Insurance Broker, who will provide us with your information so we can arrange your insurance policy for you.  We may also collect personal information from you if you contact us directly, for example if you needed to make a complaint.

How will we use your data?

Where we process your personal information, we do so on the basis that the processing is necessary for the purposes of the performance of a contract with you or where we have legitimate interests to process that data, for example in order to provide you with a service.

We will use your personal information to:

  • Provide products and services as required by you
  • Communicate with you
  • Undertake statistical analysis
  • Develop new products and services
  • Meet our legal or regulatory obligations

Who will we share your information with?

As a necessary part of providing you with the services described above, we may need to disclose your personal data to other third parties. These include: Computer bureau/Software Houses, Insurers, other Insurance Intermediaries, Insurance Industry databases, Government databases or Credit agencies.  Where we are obliged to do so, we may also be required to provide your information to regulatory authorities, the Police and / or other law enforcement bodies.  If required in order to service your policy or to meet legal or regulatory obligations, we may transfer your personal data to destinations outside the European Economic Area (EEA). Where we do, we will ensure that it is treated securely and in accordance with the legislation.

How do we store your data?

We have appropriate security measures in place to protect your information and prevent your personal data from being accidentally lost, used, or accessed in an unauthorised way.

How long will we retain your data for?

Your data will not be retained for longer than is necessary and will be managed in accordance with our data retention policy. In most cases the period will be for a maximum of 7 years after termination of a service or contract.  In certain circumstances we may be required to retain data for a longer period due to business, legal or regulatory requirements.  We will only do this where we have identified a lawful basis for doing so.

  • The right to object to certain processing, including for the purposes of direct marketing
  • The right to be provided with information in relation to automated decision making and profiling
  • You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s office at any time if you are concerned about the way in which we handle your data

The right to object

You have the right to object to our use of your personal data for legitimate business interests of for direct marketing purposes.  If there are compelling legitimate interests to continue to use your data we may do so, and we will inform you of those legitimate interests.
